New World At Lanier Library Arthur W. Britton has given a copy of “The New World’’ to the Lanier Library, and we want to express our appreciation for this unusual book. It presents the first pictures of America, of the In dians and animal life, with con temporary narratives. Here are the water colors, in their original color, John White made in 1585, when governor of the colony on Roanoke; here are the paintings by Jacques Le Moyne, who ac companied the Frencji Expedition to Florida, 1564. And here are the De Bry engravings of their work published in his book on the Elnglish colony in 1590. The editor of “the New World,” Stefan Lorant, was born in Hun gary and came to this country in 1940, after escaping from Hitler. He expresses his love for Ameri ca and freedom by producing such handsome books as “Lincoln, His Life in Photographs,” and “The Presidency: the Historv of Presi dential Elections from Washington, to Truman.” Mr. Lorant now lives in Lenox, Mass.—Library Reporter Landrum Fidelis Class The Fidelis Class of the Land rum First Baptist Church will meet Saturday at 7:30 p. m., at the home of Mrs. John Brown.
